1. initial consultation

The initial meeting on site takes about an hour and has no charge. During this time, JMLA documents all client ideas and initiates a brief. Upon conclusion of discussions, a quotation is prepared and submitted for client consideration.

2. Design Stage

By signing the “Agreement for the Preparation of Landscape Architectural Plans” the client confirms engagement of JMLA design services. If available, a site plan is requested, site dimensions are carried out to verify existing conditions and photographs taken. The design process commences, focusing on complementing and enhancing the clients brief. Following about a two week period, a date is confirmed for the design presentation. JMLA aims to fulfil all creative requirements, and if not satisfied, will amend until completely pleased with the design proposal.

3. Working Drawings

By signing the quotation associated with the “Agreement for the Preparation of Landscape Working Drawings” the client confirms engagement of JMLA technical and/or planting services. Councils require submission of working drawings associated with various elements including pergolas, carports and load bearing structures over 1m in height. Associated with this submission, structural engineers must be engaged under another separate contract. JMLA has established working relationships with accredited engineering companies and can assist with engagement and management of their services. Costs for both engineers and council submission fees can be covered by JMLA, which is then reimbursed by the client.
With larger projects, construction details may be required for elements as above and also include pools, water features, walls, steps or shaded structures like arbours and gazebos. Engineering documentation for these elements will also be necessary.
Some projects benefit from the composition of a Planting Plan, although each design is provided with a basic Proposed Planting List. With an extensive knowledge of plant material, planting themes are selected to complement the client’s interests, and acknowledge watering, soil and position requirements.
Each of the above may be combined under one agreement for the preparation of working drawings.

4. Project Management and Maintenance

JMLA has established working relationships with landscape construction companies that have a record of providing competitively priced, high standard of works. JMLA offers administrative services, based on an hourly rate, to manage the project from a selection of contractors, through the construction phase, to inspection of works, and the maintenance period following project completion.

Jonathan's ability to see what we wanted and to make it all come alive on paper, is why we recommend him so highly
Roy and Lynne, Hillcrest
It has been a pleasure working with Jonathan. He is caring about our home and has worked with us to help us produce the outside features that suit and that work, guiding us with his wisdom and experience.
We have worked with Jonathan in developing our landscaping over several years and have always enjoyed his pleasant and helpful manner. His advice and recommendations have been thorough and skilful and we will certainly be working with Jonathan again.
Jonathan has guided us with the development of our landscaping, working with both landscapers and builders alike. He has always been happy to help when we needed help, and has stood back and allowed us to develop thoughts when that was what was necessary. He has been a joy to work with.
Greg and Erica, Kingswood
Thank you for the wonderful gardens you have created for our family home. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with you and are grateful to have taken your advise regarding the layout for social functions, which has worked a treat. The tropical nature of the gardens has created an opulent yet welcoming environment for our family and friends, and we look forward to enjoying it for years to come.
